ECHOLOGY WITHIN ABANDONMENT
Cracking graffiti full of expression over the abandoned cement
blocks within a lost structure; the ominous silence of an
abandoned, once social space; natural forces still growing
among the cracked graphitized cement.
Human presence is as much an ecological force as nature
itself, leaving an indelible mark on a place. These places offer
the chance to imagine what they once were and how creativity
was imposed once they were deserted. They show how the
unauthorized social use of a place is a return to the function of
habitat communicating its own energy.
These places turn to be more interesting and complex as the
natural processes of decay takes over, and a different life grows
upon the layered debris. Abandonment makes one see the
possibilities of life blooming within the most unexpected places.
